Literary Hide-and-Seek

Here's a cute little story for y'all from the last week:
The other day, I grabbed my box of books, tossed the kids and it into the car, and we set off on what can best be described as a literary caper—hiding my books in Free Little Libraries all over town like we were up to something pearl-clutching scandalous. You’d think it’d be a wholesome family outing. Nope! We were playing a literary game of hide-and-seek.
The boys, of course, went to the adventure like a duck to water. At each stop, one would jump out with my books tucked underneath an arm, and dart over those cute little libraries like someone was gonna catch them stealing a cookie from the cookie jar. They’d hoop and holler all the way back to the car, and Lordie me, you’d think we were robbing a bank the way they were carrying on.
Now, I’ve lived in this little town long enough for people to know me, but most don’t have a flying clue I’m an author. There’s a quiet thrill, like slipping a note into a stranger’s coat pocket. No big fuss about it, just leaving something behind for someone to discover on their own, and not knowing they’re holding a little piece of homegrown writing from someone who might be their neighbor.
The best part? Watching my kids get a kick out of it as I turned a random act of marketing into an undercover adventure. So, if you happen to stumble across one of my books out there in the wild, just know it came with a little bit of sneaking and a lot of laughs. Ain’t nothing like hiding in plain sight.
